From my first contact, you and your staff were polite and professional. You were the fourth lawyer in Texas whom I contacted to help appeal the negative finding on Carlos’s Credible Fear interview. The first lawyer I contacted said that the entire case would have to be processed in Texas. Another lawyer required me to complete a form for review and did not respond quickly. The third lawyer’s receptionist was rude to me, and the lawyer did not return my call. However, when I called your office, your staff was courteous, and I had the opportunity to speak directly with you within half an hour. You listened patiently to my story and told me what would be possible in my husband’s case. After hearing the positive things that you had to say, I felt that I was able to meet my goal of hiring a lawyer that day and that we had the right lawyer. In addition, you were able to meet with my husband later that day to initiate the paperwork for his appeal. As we proceeded, Daniela, the paralegal assigned to Carlos’s case, was always very patient with me as I asked many questions and navigated this new territory.

Before my husband went before the judge on appeal, one of the guards told Carlos that he had been a guard for ten years and had never seen anyone win their appeal. It is possible that Carlos may be the first person in ten years in that facility to win an appeal.
